The Steam Controller sold out super quickly and Valve is working on a restock

The timeline is as follows: On April 27, reviews of the Steam Controller were available. This is ours. Valve revealed the controller's price ($99) and availability date (May 4) on the same day. After a week of debate over the gamepad's price, the Steam Controller was officially sold out by the morning of May 5.

This gets us to the present.Around 12:00 ET today, Valve tweeted, "Steam Controller ran out faster than we anticipated, and we hate that not everyone who wanted one was able to get it." We're attempting to stock up on more, and we'll provide an update on the anticipated timing shortly."In the meanwhile, some customers have seen a subtle increase in their anticipated shipping dates.

In addition to (ostensibly) attempting to deploy the Steam Machine console and Steam Frame VR headset, Valve is working on releasing the Steam Controller on schedule and determining how to replenish its supply. In order to create a fully contained couch-PC gaming environment, the business originally intended to deliver the Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame in early 2026. However, as of the fifth month of the year, the Steam Controller has only recently been released. Valve set the stage for its hardware to completely miss 2026 in March.

The continuous memory shortages have caused pandemonium in the computer sector and delayed the release of the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. But there is reason for hope. According to Valve observer Brad Lynch and confirmed by The Verge, Valve imported almost 50 tons of "Game Consoles" to its US distribution hubs between April 30 and May 1, a larger number than its recent Steam Deck refill orders. Although Valve has not yet responded, there are rumors that they might be steam machines or steam frames. As usual, hope at your own peril because Valve has a long and rich history of inspiring players before utterly disappointing them.
