There's already a way to mount your smartphone to a Steam Controller

The first Steam Controller attachment is currently available from Mechanism, the company behind a "gaming pillow" for the Steam Deck and an expanding line of grips for PCs and portable consoles. On May 4, Valve's new controller will go on sale. On the same day, Mechanism will begin offering the Basegrip for Steam Controller, an add-on that allows you to connect the controller to a smartphone, along with a number of other mounts that the firm currently offers.

The Steam Controller's Basegrip is designed to fit comfortably over the back of the device while maintaining space for the magnetic charging puck to be attached. Additionally, you could connect the Steam Controller to many of Mechanism's current mounts, such as a phone mount that allows you to magnetically attach a smartphone to the top of the controller, because the majority of the company's accessories are made to operate together when the Basegrip is mounted. You could hypothetically create a small portable gaming system by combining a phone and controller.

Or, well, you might one day. Mechanism observes that "the controller doesn't work across all of iOS or Android yet." Valve has made it quite evident that the Steam Controller is solely intended to function with Steam and the Steam Link app. You may stream your PC games using your smartphone, Steam Controller, and the Steam Link app, but you might find it difficult to play more. Although it may make using the Steam Controller with a smartphone somewhat less practical at the moment, future software upgrades may improve support.

However, that shouldn't take away from the various accessories Mechanism provides, especially its upcoming Steam Controller Dock, which will proudly show the controller while not in use and include a charging puck to keep it charged.

According to Mechanism, the Basegrip for Steam Controller will retail for $9 on May 4 or less when combined with other accessories. Although the Steam Controller Dock's exact price is still unknown, Mechanism reports that it will ship in June and that you can sign up for a waitlist to purchase it right now.
